About The Torbay Brass Band

Truly a local band, Torbay Brass Band was formed in 1976 by a group of local people who were employed at the South Devon College, who showed an enthusiasm for brass playing. The current band still retains its local connections through its members who like their predecessors are very proud to carry the name of Torbay wherever they go.

The band quickly established itself in the contesting world and joined the South West Brass Band Association where it worked its way through the nationally graded sections of the brass band world. The band achieved national success in 1993 when the band won the 2nd Section National Championship in London. Since then the band found itself on a spiral down through the grading sections. However, the current players are fully determined and committed to turning this around.

The band has a very active engagement diary and concert schedule that encompasses charity concerts for which the band has raised much needed funds for a variety of organisations. Open-air concerts on the sea front in Torquay which are very popular with holidaymakers and residents alike, and trips overseas where the band is very well received. So much so they have even been heard on a Swiss radio programme.

The band performs at many other events in addition to its continued participation in contests both at local and national level.
